Interactive modeling course for banking interviews

Learn financial modeling by building one

You build a five year income statement, the working capital and cash flow schedules behind it, a DCF, a comps table, an M&A model, and a leveraged buyout. Cell by cell, in your browser, with every formula checked as you type.

Financial Modeling Fundamentals is Superday AI's interactive course for students recruiting for investment banking. It runs a spreadsheet in your browser, checks every formula as you type, and ends in a graded test against the clock. The first lesson is below, free and without an account. It needs a desktop, because the course teaches Excel keyboard shortcuts.

Modeling needs a keyboard

The course teaches Excel shortcuts and superdays happen on laptops, so the lesson runs on desktop only. Open this page on a computer and the first lesson plays right here, no account needed.

How the course works

Type every formula

A browser spreadsheet that behaves like Excel. Build formulas by pointing with the arrow keys, lock a reference with F4, fill a row with Ctrl+R, and beat the clock on speed drills.

Graded on the formula, not just the answer

Write the formula a different correct way and it still passes. Type a number where a formula belongs and it gets caught. Hints cost you nothing when you are stuck.

A final test under superday conditions

The last test scores every cell on both the number and the formula. A right formula fed by an earlier mistake still earns credit, and the report names what broke first.

What the course covers

Ten modules and a graded capstone. Modules 3 through 10 follow one company, from its first revenue driver to the buyout that takes it private. Each module starts you from correct numbers, so a mistake in one never carries into the next. Then in the last module the sheet arrives finished and wrong, and you have to find the three errors in it.

  1. 01

    Excel for Bankers

    5 lessonsFirst lesson free

Move around without the mouse, build formulas by pointing at cells, lock a reference with F4, fill a row with Ctrl+R, and beat the clock on speed drills.

  2. 02

    From Accounting to a Model

    3 lessons

The income statement line by line, margins at each level, and the ten dollars of depreciation question, worked down through cash flow.

  3. 03

    Income Statement Build

    4 lessons

A five year projection for one company: volume and price drivers, costs that scale, and operating leverage.

  4. 04

    Balance Sheet & Working Capital

    3 lessons

How long the company waits to get paid, sits on inventory, and takes to pay suppliers (DSO, DIO and DPO), the change in working capital, and rolling PP&E forward year by year.

  5. 05

    Cash Flow & Linking

    3 lessons

The cash flow statement, the cash roll-forward, and the balance check that reads zero in every year.

  6. 06

    Mini-DCF

    4 lessons

Unlevered free cash flow, WACC from components, terminal value, discounting, and an implied share price.

  7. 07

    Trading Comps

    4 lessons

Scrub EBITDA of one-time items, calendarize mismatched fiscal years, run the treasury stock method, and price the company off its peers.

  8. 08

    M&A

    4 lessons

Price a target off the comps, fund it with cash, stock and new debt, and work out whether the deal is accretive or dilutive.

  9. 09

    Basic LBO

    6 lessons

Sources and uses, two term loans and a revolver rolling forward year by year, a cash sweep that pays the debt down, and the IRR and MoIC a private equity firm is judged on.

  10. 10

    Desk Ready

    2 lessons

Build a small projection, then find the three defects somebody else left in it: a flipped sign, a number typed over a formula, and an error inherited from a cell further up.

  11. Test

    The Superday Model Test

    Graded capstone

A company you have not seen in the course, 45 minutes on the clock, every cell graded on value and formula, and a report that names what broke first.

Questions students ask

Is the first lesson really free?

Yes. The first lesson of Excel for Bankers runs right on this page with no account and no card. Your place in it is saved in this browser, so you can close the tab and pick up where you left off. The other 37 lessons and the graded capstone are part of a Superday AI subscription.

Do I need to know accounting first?

No. Module 2 of the Superday AI course covers the accounting you need before any modeling starts: the income statement line by line, what each margin measures, and how depreciation moves through to cash. If you have taken an intro accounting class you can move through it quickly, and if you have not, it is the reason that module exists.

Is there a certificate?

No. The course ends in a graded model test rather than a certificate, and the report it produces is for you, scoring every cell on both the number and the formula. If a verifiable certificate matters for your situation, this is not the course for that.

Do I need Excel installed?

No. Superday AI runs a spreadsheet in your browser that behaves like Excel: arrow key navigation, formulas built by pointing, F4 anchor cycling, and Ctrl+R fills. The shortcuts are the same ones you use in Excel.

What will I actually learn?

By the end you can build a five year projection from scratch, value a company with a DCF and against its peers, work out whether an acquisition adds to earnings or takes away from them, and model a buyout with the debt paid down year by year. Along the way you get the keyboard speed that makes all of it fast: navigation without the mouse, formulas built by pointing, and fills that finish a row in one keystroke. The last module hands you a finished sheet with three errors in it and asks you to find them.

How is this different from video courses?

You never watch someone else model. You type every formula yourself and the course checks each cell instantly, accepting equivalent formulas and catching hardcoded numbers.

Can I take it on my phone?

No. The course is desktop only because it teaches Excel keyboard shortcuts, and superdays happen on laptops. On a phone the page tells you to come back on one.

How long does the course take?

The Superday AI course is 38 lessons that add up to just under four hours of building, and the graded capstone is another 45 minutes. Those estimates assume each formula lands first try, so budget six to nine hours to allow for retries. Individual lessons run four to ten minutes, so they fit between classes.
