Run through mock interviews to build confidence before the big day.
Full Day (8-12 hours)
4-6 Back-to-Back
New York, NY Office
Superday Format
Typically 4-5 interviews with emphasis on TMT industry knowledge and investment thinking.
Typical Day Structure:
Application & Screening
Raine recruits selectively from target schools with a focus on candidates who demonstrate genuine TMT sector interest. Applications are reviewed for technology or media industry exposure and analytical capability.
Phone Screen
A 30-minute conversation with a mid-level banker covering basic technicals, your interest in TMT, and your understanding of Raine's combined advisory and investment model.
First Round Interviews
Two interviews with Associates or VPs exploring deeper technical knowledge, particularly around TMT valuation, and your perspective on current industry trends. Some may include mini-case discussions.
Superday
Three to four interviews with senior bankers and principals. Expect a blend of technical questions, industry discussions, and assessment of your fit with a small, intellectually engaged team. The tone is conversational but rigorous.
Decision & Offer
Raine makes decisions quickly given its small class sizes. Offers are typically extended within a week, and the firm values candidates who demonstrate genuine enthusiasm for the platform.
What to Do
- Develop a well-informed perspective on at least two TMT subsectors (e.g., digital media, telecommunications infrastructure, enterprise software) and be prepared to discuss them in depth.
- Understand Raine's growth equity investment thesis and how it complements the advisory practice.
- Show comfort with the entrepreneurial, less structured nature of a smaller firm.
- Research Raine's recent transactions and investments to demonstrate genuine familiarity with the platform.
- Be prepared to articulate why the combination of advisory and investing is more appealing to you than a pure advisory or pure investment role.
- Demonstrate intellectual curiosity about how technology is reshaping traditional media and telecom business models.
What to Avoid
- Do not apply without a genuine interest in TMT. Raine is a sector-focused firm, and generic interest in banking will not be competitive.
- Avoid being unable to discuss current TMT trends or recent sector transactions. This is foundational knowledge for a Raine interview.
- Do not confuse Raine's merchant banking with private equity. The firm's investment approach is distinct and should be understood on its own terms.
- Never appear inflexible about responsibilities. At a small firm like Raine, you will be expected to contribute across advisory and potentially investment activities.
- Avoid rehearsed answers that lack conviction. Raine values original thinking and genuine intellectual engagement.
- Do not ignore the investment side of the business when preparing. Many candidates focus exclusively on advisory and miss a key part of Raine's value proposition.
